Before we take a look at the
various snoring chin strap concepts let's
take a brief look at the condition itself.
How to Prevent
Snoring
It's important to take a brief look at
some of the main reasons why snoring occurs. Once the
underlying reasons are understood you can make an educated
decision on what sort of anti snoring
device might suit you. You may
also find that an anti snoring mouthpiece is NOT what you
need.
The snoring sound is caused by vibration of any of the tissues
which line the airway. Many believe it originates only in the
nasal passages but this is not the whole truth.
The non snorer when asleep has a clear airway and the air
passes into the lungs through the nose or mouth free of
obstruction and interruption. The only sound that can be heard
is the normal passage of air. If however there is some type of
blockage which interrupts that fee flow the area will resonate
causing the sound we call snoring. Sometimes it is barely
audible. For others it sounds like a train passing through a
station at full speed.
If we can find out what causes this blockage in an individual,
we can start to put practical measures in place to resolve the
issue. By clearing the blockage, the smooth passage of air is
restored, and the snoring will cease.
So What Causes This Blockage
Or Interruption?
The
nasal passage is one of the areas where the air can be blocked.
Allergies causing a build up of mucus can restrict the smooth
movement of air. A simple decongestant may solve the problem,
alternatively, nasal strips can be used. These open the nasal
passage and allow air to flow freely.
If you
suffer from problems with your tonsils or adenoids, you may
have a snoring problem. Many snore and don't realize they have
a problem. If your tonsils are just too big or become
hyperactive then removal might be the only way to alleviate the
problem.
Excess
weight can also cause additional fatty tissue in the throat
which causes a blockage and subsequent vibrating of throat
tissues. It's certainly possible to have surgery to remove
those tissues, however losing weight might be the better
solution.
Snoring
Chin Strap
If you
have tried an Anti Snoring Device and it hasn't
worked for you, or you are just investigating methods to
eliminate your snoring, a Snoring Chin Strap might just
be the solution. It's a simple device that goes over your head
and round your chin and is designed to prevent the mouth
opening whilst sleeping. This naturally encourages the sleeper
to breath through their nose, thus eliminating the chance of
snoring.
The chin strap may be one of the
funnier looking anti snoring aids, but if it prevents you
snoring it's well worth the initial feeling of
embarrassment.
Snoring can me a sign of sleep apnea,
a more serious condition which we discuss on our
Sleep
Apnea Mouthpiece page.
This is not always the case and can be a habit that can be
overcome by 'learning' to breath properly again. If in any
doubt, consult your doctor.
The Snoring Chin Strap will teach you
to sleep with your mouth closed. This should stop your snoring,
because it is the open mouth which causes the airway to narrow,
causing snoring. These anti snoring aids will keep the jaw held
up and the airway will remain more open, averting the
possibility of snoring.
By wearing the chin strap regularly,
you will automatically learn to sleep with your mouth closed.
This means that you won't need to wear it forever. The devices
are not expensive and can provide restful sleep for the snorer
and their family. Consider a Snoring Chin
Strap to alleviate your snoring problem.
